Can you believe we are already into third quarter? This school year is passing by quickly. One of the many things you need to be concerning yourself with right now is applying for financial aid for college. Parents, try to get your taxes filed as early as possible so that your student has the best chance at federal and state aid.
Seniors, as soon as your parent(s) taxes have been filed then you need to complete the FAFSA. This is best done online. To complete the FAFSA go HERE. Remember, is is free to apply for aid so if the website that you are on is asking for payment you've gone to the wrong site.
Students and parents, you can get a head start by applying
for the PIN number which is needed to electronically sign the FAFSA
application. You can go to www.pin.ed.govto complete this process. Then you will need to remember the number in order to complete the FAFSA.
If you feel like you will need help completing the FAFSA there are numerous FAFSA Frenzy events taking place across the state. FAFSA Frenzy events help you with completing the FAFSA. There's also a chance to win a scholarship. Maple Woods will have their event on Sunday, February 9, 2014 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the MCC Maple Woods Student Center. Missouri Western will have their FAFSA Frenzy on February 9, 2014 at Spratt Hall, 4525 Downs Drive from 2:00-4:00 p.m.
If you plan on attending please bring your 2013 tax returns, if you have already filed. Income can also be estimated by using your 2012 taxes, if necessary, just so you can get it filed prior to
March 1st which is a priority deadline used by many colleges and
universities. If students use estimated 2012 tax information, they
will be required to make corrections at a later date.
To find other locations and find out what you need to bring go HERE.
A website that you may find useful is available at: FinancialAidToolkit.ed.gov/resources.
Parents/guardians, if you missed the financial aid workshop that we hosted at NPHS in October, you can access that information by going HERE.
