April's Career Cafe: The Kansas City T-Bones

Today we had the pleasure of having Jason Young, Director of Sales for the Kansas City T-Bones baseball team and Amberly Heslinga, Intern for the T-Bones speak during Career Cafe today.  They gave a great presentation and discussed with students the importance of finding and completing internships during college.  In working with the T-Bones they have many different responsibilities such as group sales, group promotions and occasionally helping with preparing the baseball field.  This was the last Career Cafe for the school year.  If you didn't sign up and attend a Career Cafe this year, I would encourage you to do so next year.  It's a great opportunity to find out what interests you and what career possibilities exist.  If you've never attended a T-Bones game go check them out this summer.  You can find more information about the T-Bones team by going HERE.

Career Cafe...Engineering

In October we were fortunate to have Michael Kelly, a retired Power Engineer from Black and Veatch as our guest speaker for Career Cafe. Michael has had some fascinating experiences as an engineer.  For instance, he helped with the privatization of Istanbul's electric system. He's also had clients such as Exxon Mobile, St. Joseph Power and Light, Peabody Coal, and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand.   He has traveled extensively in his career as an engineer.  Mr. Kelly was fascinating to listen to and many students benefited from his knowledge and expertise.  Currently, Mr. Kelly teaches graduate level classes at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and the University of Kansas.
